Metalgamma chooses Cutlite Penta: a new standard of quality in thick metal cutting
Metalgamma, a well-established company in the Brescia metalworking district, chose Cutlite Penta laser systems to reach a new level of competitiveness in thick metal cutting.
Backed by long experience and deep expertise in thick metal processing, the company evaluated the technology best suited to today's market needs: the outcome was the choice of Cutlite Penta laser machines.
State-of-the-art production and constant evolution: the Metalgamma formula
Ever since its foundation in the late 1980s, Metalgamma has grown and evolved continuously thanks to the vision of its founders. Under the guidance of brothers Rino and Luigi Bignotti and of Franco Durogati, the company moved from light metalwork, first with punching and then with laser cutting, to thick metal processing, also with oxyfuel cutting and plasma cutting, starting in 2005.
With a team of 15 employees and a 3,200-square-meter facility, Metalgamma is today one of the leading players among Brescia's metalworking companies. The will and the need for an increasingly advanced production department led Metalgamma to replace its plasma cutting system with fiber laser technology.
Meeting the high performance of Cutlite Penta laser cutting
Cutting quality and production efficiency have always been Metalgamma's priorities and the keys to its success. Meeting Cutlite Penta opened new development scenarios to reach ever higher performance.
«The continuous investments we have made, both in new machinery and service facilities and in the ongoing modernization of our existing cutting systems, have always served to keep our production department state of the art and in step with the growing demands of the market and of our customers. With this vision, the company recognized the urgency of upgrading its by-then obsolete plasma cutting system» explained Rino Bignotti. «Our ambition was to be pioneers in our reference market, that is, to set a new cutting quality target at least up to 50 mm thickness».
From this need came the encounter with Cutlite Penta laser machines.
«Seeing up close the actual speed, precision and cutting quality of the Cutlite Penta system on significant thicknesses played a decisive role in the decision process. In particular, when from a sheet, one of rather poor quality at that, a small cut plate 50 mm thick was produced, with an 8 mm diameter hole at its center. Having touched the quality of the finish with our own hands, we understood the potential of this technology and how it could help us achieve the competitive improvement that was necessary and strategic for us».
Higher quality and performance with the Cutlite Penta PLUS series
Metalgamma therefore chose the laser technology of Cutlite Penta's PLUS series with Evo 3 cutting head, 30 kW of power, a 12,000 x 3,000 mm working area and double table. The result was a decisive increase in performance, efficiency and quality offered to its customers, for the same thickness of the machined parts. Thanks to the new laser system, Metalgamma can fulfill orders for its portfolio of over 200 active customers per year with holes already finished, avoiding rework on the customer's side.
«The new system purchased from Cutlite Penta» Bignotti reiterates «fits perfectly into this context, with the added value of a very large working area, thanks to the double table, and the possibility of optimizing set-ups quickly and smoothly according to our needs. The goal, in effect, was to acquire a technology capable of redefining a new in-house standard of cutting quality, proving superior on materials such as carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminum, copper, brass and other special materials up to a thickness of 50 mm, and therefore giving us, precisely because of its characteristics, the chance to stand out in our district and seize new market opportunities».
The Cutlite Penta laser cutting system was purchased with the support of the bank BCC di Brescia, which assisted Metalgamma in the operation, and with co-financing from the European Union through the ERDF (European Regional Development Fund), under the Italian National Operational Programme "Imprese e Competitività 2014-2020", managed by Invitalia.
Metalgamma's vision is already looking at the next step
Its aptitude for constant evolution has already led Metalgamma to consider upgrading the system with the bevel cutting head it is prearranged for. Also designed by Cutlite Penta, the bevel head is light and compact and can rotate +/-45° in both cutting directions. This way Metalgamma could complete its production with weld-prep chamfers and bevel cuts.
